He's obsessed with Say Anything and Halloween and has a habit of drawing and writing on himself with sharpies.  He's...often covered with Say Anything lyrics.  Ouch.

6/14/11-6/19/11: Daily sketches.//Dan, Pokemon, Etc.

I'm challenging myself to do a sketch sheet a day for the rest of the summer. This means 3+ views/expressions of a character, and 1+ pose, referenced from either a photo or anatomically accurate illustration, drawn at least once, pref. twice, on computer paper.

FIRSTLY, I made a new header.  The old one was big and ugly and I meant to remove it and somehow forgot to....Anyway.  Anyway, I will -probably- make a new one using the same elements in a little while if/when I get an animating program in anticipation of college.  

I challenged myself to make 100 images--or something like that, maybe more--where I would draw something to a song or something that would have to come easily or be worked on in whatever way I wanted.  This is finished now but it started with the background, which was splatter art.  It's not quite done, I think.  I'm planning to add some shadows and iridescent medium and some text.  So you don't see it yet.  Soon, though.  I promise.  This was to Dance in the Dark by Lady GaGa.

Drawn to I'll Take Us Home by Matt & Kim.  Specifically from the line, "Hey, New York is a wolflike shadow" in the refrain.  Liquid concentrate watercolors, blue ink pens, gel pen, bic pens, and markers.  Whew.  I started this over the summer....

 

This was drawn to Explosions in the Sky's album Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever, from the track Have you passed through this night?

This imagery is how that album makes me feel.  But in a good way--this is a dark image but it's not a sad or negative image.  Liam's face is too short here and his nose is too big.  I was still figuring out how to draw him when I made this. 

Markers and pencil and pens, pretty much. 

It makes me think of Desperate Hell by Christian Death but it was drawn a while ago.  Maybe over the summer.  I decided to ink it.  I miss Bailey.  I like him here--he looks raw and like he's trapped in himself.  Which he is, by his fears. 

Done over the summer, in Washington, with watercolor, ink, and gel pen, to It's a Metaphor, Fool by Say Anything.  Their first album is my favorite album ever ever ever.  I wish they stayed that good with their continued studio work.  They added in too much electronic stuff and lost their way a little.  Lost their individuality and beauty.

Doing REALLY well on my Christmas gifts for friends.  I've done a lot of human sketches, mostly of my boys Liam and Dan, and I'll scan them soon. I'm trying to design a sugar glider...it's tricky :P

Doodles of Dan I did on the corner of the French version of "Oh Christmas Tree" all ready for winter (well, sorta).  He gets a red nose on a good day so his nose must be like, NEON here.  He doesn't wear a nice, puffy warm winter jacket either (which is really dumb) because he thinks it makes him look fat.  This, from the kid who weighs nearly nothing--and no, Danno ain't manorexic, he's just plain thin.

But he does wear a cute hat and scarf. :/ He straightened his bangs only here.

 Dan and Jack.  Dan's side profile is atrocious.  I like the one above better.  I love his front view though.
Jack is in Bad Spider--he's the Guitarist Who Needs No Introduction--and is a fursuiter and fursuit maker as well as general furry artist.  He's an incredibly stylish person.  I SUPER stylized his features here as I'm starting to zone in on how I want him to look (the guys in Kill Hannah all resemble him in a certain way, lol).  He wears bunny ears and antlers (sometimes reindeer ones with little bells he bought at the dollar store) most days--his fursona is, oh god, such a groaner: Jack the Jackalope. :/  Dan had a crush on him for a while but then got over it because essentially Dan is not a gay character XP Jack is though.

 Liam and Derrick.  Still playing around with Derrick.  If the side profile looks familiar, it's a sketch based off of a different picture...that didn't turn out as well as I hoped.  I like his front view, though, and that initial picture of him works with the front view, so I just need to get better at those.
LIAM LOOKS PERFECT TO ME HERE.  I LOVE IT.

I "saw" Liam in a restaurant and doodled the guy on a napkin while watching him eat chicken wings and laugh at stuff his friends said.  I starred the ones I like.  I REALLY like the one of Andy with the hat on. And Anthro!Liam is a big masculine ginger tabby.  And may also be a wolf.  Depends on what he wants to draw.  

The side view looks more like the guy (who was in a hat) than he does Liam, but it's still close.  The picture above is WAY closer, but seeing that the front views were really similar was neat.  The hat makes him look different.  Plus I actually scaled his skull correctly on the napkin doodles....

Also, WIPs from forever ago of Bailey and Benihime (contest prize...I want to just get it over with, I REALLY hate drawing anything for fetish furs).  I'm scared to finish the Bailey one.  Lately white on parchment has been a frightening thought.  But it's so cute. -_- 

WIPs for Sophie  (the moth-deer-rabbit-spirit character) and Joy (super cute peach-faced lovebird).  Characters for IRL friends.  I was really close to Sophie for the designing because she's a fellow artist and is planning to draw this design (eee!).  It's ALMOST done. 

her hair does NOT have V-bangs.  It has Bettie Paige bangs.  MY bangs are V-bangs. >:E

So she's a forest spirit primarily of decay (leaves rot where she walks, she can create dirt, create maggots and worms, decompose dead animals and plant matter, and make mushrooms grow) that gives off a weak aura attracting mostly moths but calming other animals so that she can approach any of them.  She didn't scan right: the arms are a pale grey, slightly brown, and the colors are darker and more mixed.  Oh well.

She can run around in the city or country, either or.  Likes lolita and vintage dresses, and high-fashion goth.  She is SO fucking fashionable irl.  One of those people that can wear ANYTHING.

So yeah, she's a forest spirit but she doesn't exclusively live in the forest.

Joy is a lovebird for a bunch of reasons.  She's annoying, cocks her head a lot like one, and sings.  She felt it fit her immature charm. XP Plus her buddy Liz is a dog-bird-thing so they sort of half go.  She also doesn't have breasts, but instead has this "bump" of feathers that lovebirds have on their chests.  And she has comic book bird hands, lol.  No fingers...but still left handed.  

Her pants are funky.  They're made to accommodate bird legs, and have holes for the knee and can zip off right above the knee or down the back for greater comfort/other options of wear in general.  I had a pair of zip off pants as a kid...ah, those were the days.  

Also, for my friend Kiera.

I don't really know why but I've always drawn her as a papillon, for a few years now.  Other animals may fit her better, but she's got this fluffy hair that she dyes all the time and she's just got this sophistication that reminds me of one.  She's by no means small.  She's really tall and is either a brown belt or lower-level black belt in karate.  She's sturdy, more sturdy than these dogs are.  BUT it just fits, so I don't question it.  She likes it anyway.  

She'd make a good owl. :P

A ton of finished work and WIP's...mix of clean and nude/adult.  the latter are under the cut. finished version of Death and the Maiden.  Portfolio piece for sure.  Didn't scan the whole thing though, it got cut off. ;-;

Various unfinished ATCs.  Fanart for Matt & Kim (I'll Take Us Home to be specific, from the album Grand) and Say Anything (Little Girls), and a picture of Bailey wigging out in double.  All from this summer. 

The Body (Stand By Me was made from this story), and Carrie.  I want to make a "torso" for the middle but I need to pick another, recognizable, Stephen King story.  Also it has to be one I've read. XP I haven't read all his "classics" yet by any means. 

 Liam.  It doesn't look like how I want him to look.  His face used to be too "pretty" so I went all ultra-squished and now it's just not him either.  Honestly, he looks like Derrick (see below the cut, but warning: adult art) and that's annoying.  Drawn to the totally inspiring, mostly instrumental album Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die; Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever by Explosions in the Sky (I bet it's a will instead of shall but I can't remember right now).  There's one track that's got speaking.

And finally, this is in my portfolio to show how my thoughts progress.  A redesign of a character with a long, interesting history.  I made up Triina in like, 7th grade.  She got me into some drama with gutter flower (who is a friend now <3) for good reason: I didn't quite understand what I'd done as being wrong, but I'd copied her character Tristan, especially his hair.  There wasn't enough distinguishing them (looking back it is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever done, honestly).  So then I was super inspired by all the adorable asian people all over Seattle and by a few tattoo books I'd bought recently, and just...by the atmosphere over there, and a bunch of bluejays in the bird feeder back home.  So I went crazy and made her an honestly cool character.  She's kinda chubby and small-chested, and I like it.  Her tattoos are all asian-themed now and I actually took the time to design them.  I threw on a TON of bird feathers, kept her hands which change color with HEAT as to MOOD but instead of dumb pawprints shaped like X's, she's got splatter markings.  Bird hands, birdlike feet.  Feathers and stumps of undeveloped wings, ridges of feathers that can raise and lower.  I love her now.
I'm making a few adoptables and some of them will be bird-dogs like her.
I was afraid to post the redesign for a long time. I  was kind of secretly convinced that I'd accidentally made her more like Tristan or more like another character, one I didn't even know existed or something...which was stupid, so I just went ahead with it.  Only for some time, I'd had Triina with new hair and a tweaked design that was acceptable to both of us.  She just fell to the wayside and I redesigned her to have something cute to draw.
She's got a totally different attitude too.  I mellowed her out like woah, and made her just...way cuter, way more fun, and less...gross and slutty.  She might join a riot grrl group that would then be around where Bad Spider and I Read the Giver play (I Read the Giver is read as in, past tense: I have read the Giver).  She's a fan of them and that's a shirt design I hope to make for real someday.

A really fun picture of Sid from alllll the way back in Summer again, when I was in Kentucky!  I love the pose...so sassy. She's my grey and white pit bull girl.  Fauxhawks ftw.  She's really damn cute and may be in a band with Triina.  in any case, she's friends with her if nothing else.
