7/23/12: Badges...and a LOT of Darkmoon!

Left: My half of an art part of an art-and-items trade for angryprncess <3 Right: One of two badges for Punkrock-shefox, fancy badge!

Badge for Antique of Yum*Pop, for part of a commission payment.  This badge is done, except for puffy stickers.  I want to scan it when the stickers are on it, but those will only be added after I laminate it since to do so before hand would be certain death for the badge.  It's really cute...y'all will see it soon. :)
It's not scanned yet because I need to wait until I have enough to laminate so I'm not wasting the sheet with only two things on it and a ton of empty space.

Darkmoon, supplementary for her ref to show her body hair (armpits, crotch, inner thighs, navel) which is very thick and very dark.  Also a vent piece about societal pressures to shave that due to my texture issues (mostly mild except when concerning this) are just impossible for me to give into.  The texture of my own shaved skin is repulsive and appalling to me and shaving is emotionally draining and takes forever due to exactly how thick the hair is.  Most of the time it doesn't deter me from wearing shorts without tights or leggings and mostly others don't critique me anymore, but I've been told I couldn't go on school trips, been teased, singled out etc. by both teachers and peers in school so it's hard for me to shake off paranoia about it.  Also I'm the only one of my friends who doesn't shave and it's galling for me to have to listen to others talk about shaving during the summer.  So, yeah, there's my rant.  Felt good to draw Darkmoon again.
I temporarily had a desk position at work that was really tedious and repetitive so I did some sketching...this, the badges above, and the work below...the whole post....basically was done at a desk during my lunch breaks and other times when I needed to get away from the task without actually doing anything too engrossing.

So you may remember my Feature Friday about theeverydaygoth, talking about her inspiring me to do a wardrobe cleansing.  I also got back into wearing gothy stuff-I had given up since I felt it didn't look good on me--but then I realized I was being ridiculous and had the right to feel pretty, so I went through my wardrobe and cleaned out a lot of things and resolved to wear my other clothes again.  When I went to see Rasputina in April I got all dressed up for the first time in ages and felt really good and looked really good--that reassured me that I look pretty good in elegant black stuff too.
Supplemental to Dark's ref, these are all outfits I own.
First sketch was the bottom left, by far my favorite.  Put this together for AC.  Hand-dyed pettipants!  Little cute goaty horns are from DMB.
The top left one shows a shirt that my mom and I are pretty sure she made years ago, gave to a thrift store, and I bought it. No joke. XD  Hair clips from the awesome Miss Monster.
Top right shows me in the only short-sleeve blouse I still own, haha.  Put that together for work in the office since I realized I didn't have to wear jeans and tees every day and looked grungy compared to others around me. :I
Bottom right one was the last and I ran out of room and it's my least favorite.  But the caplet is cute.  The bustle skirt is poorly made and the material is cheap and I'm trying to replace it with something better-made.
So a few notes: I layer a lot, wear mostly black, grey, and white, also ivory, also burgundy/wine sometimes, and some purple.  My use of blue is usually muted and rather limited but I have a few blue tops.  I layer a lot, hence the camis and transparent tops.
The crow skull necklace is from Skullery, it's another optional necklace for Darkmoon, but I also have an ankh and a circular chain mail necklace, so in addition to the two on her reference sheet, these are also all daily optionals.  I/she typically wear(s) two at once but one can be worn too.
I'll be making other cute goth sketches in the future as I update my wardrobe and will hopefully be doing fairy kei, lolita, and punk ones.

Warning: Nudity under the cut

This is ALSO supplemental to a ref, but Felix's ref only.  He can have Baphomet features--horns, bat wings, halo, visible chakras, etc.  The wings and horns are transparent/ghostly.  The sigil of Baphomet and inverted crosses aren't part of the form exclusively, rather, some of his many optional tattoos.  Also wax fetish.
Also super inspired by tons of Black Tape For A Blue Girl.

Prepping for AC and being generally busy.  Finally done being sick too.  So, a few outstanding badges and a few sketches.  I'm going to scan some of my pony girls tomorrow and hopefully two headshots I finished, they keep getting pushed back to other scanning sessions.....been SUPER busy!
Badge for myself for AC.  Another example of my Ink Spill badges, this one without white paint.

Fancy badge for Fox for AC.  Trying out a new paper pack, I like it quite a bit.

Name Sticker badges for Boe for AC!
Anatomically incorrect Merri and kinky Merri.  And Parenthetical Girls lyrics.  (from 2011)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrDrgaE5UKA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ4BHCZ1ZJ8
Lyrics from above songs.

And finally....I really like Legend of Korra, even more than the original series now...<3 and Bolin is Liam's SPIRIT ANIMAL.  He would totally crush on Bolin so hard too so naturally I had to draw it.
Also I hate Mako x Korra.  A lot.  You can guess I prefer Borra.

1/22/11: Trade//Ref//Adult Trade//ACEO

As it says.  Trades, ref, ACEO.
I'm not going to shade my MLPs anymore.  I only did it once.  Here.  I don't like how it looks.  Still, pleased with how it came out in terms of pose...gonna cut it out and rescan.  Trade half with Opossumsrubnoses
Lindsay finished.  I used graphite instead of iridescent stuff on the background...Pretty happy with how it looks.  A lot of people draw her with brown patches instead of grey, but the actual breed can have either.  I prefer her with the grey, but it's shown here to be a sort of grey-brown.  Her new ref will come soon, I hope.

Other trade and ref under the cut. Nudity AND adult content.

11/01/11: Halloween!

Firstly, since I neglected to post my Halloween art....remnants may be working their way in over the next few weeks.  I'm still in pumpkin mode.
So my neighbor decided to throw a party and I couldn't sleep because the apartment was shaking so I made a bunch of Halloween ACEOS.

I worked on another project that -may- be too fragile/big to scan; I'll have to see...but it made me way into toning paper with ink.
The Shining, woo.

More of The Shining.  Liam is a frighteningly plausible Jack Torrance.

Not-Dog from Shadowed Lives, hunting for some...food.

Then a departure from creepsville for a really cute little greeting card sort of deal of Carlos with sugar skull face paint, all ready for Halloween.  And delicately licking a lollipop....saucy.

I've got prints of all of these coming in the mail thanks to Snapfish having free tiny prints when you join (well, shipping, but still a good deal).  Plus now til mid November if you use the code PRINTSFREE you can get 100 tiny prints excluding shipping, so...a lot of ACEO prints coming to me, yay!

9/6/11: A Book of Beautiful Things//New Badge Style

A book of beautiful things, which can be printed and assembled following these instructions: http://urban-anthology.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/instant-book-directions-759x1024.jpg

Two new styles of badges.  I've had the idea for a long time but finally made the first one when assembling a college care pack for a friend.  The other was the second one, and the coyote skull and crossbones isn't awesome but otherwise I'm pretty pleased with it. I have another one done as part of a badge trade with someone, but I don't want to ruin the surprise...as you could imagine these are pretty simple.  There's no initial sketch, and a limited color palette, which is irrelevant to character designs.  I've been playing around with my new gel pens: I bought a bunch of souffle puffy ones and two glaze ones, and they're pretty awesome.  They both make an appearance in the booklet too, especially the purple glaze pen!
So far I haven't decided to laminate these.  After all, they're stickers.

A gift for Skwid, whose character Ghostie McSpookums is super fun to draw!  I've been meaning to finish art of him for her for several years, and tried three times (they all came out well but I just kept forgetting to finish them)....this is the third try.  I'm not happy with the incorrect circle background or the over-obvious marker texture there either but I think he came out pretty cute.

I'm at college now so personal art's gonna be a little slower.  The graphic novel--working title "Shadowed Lives"--is my priority however I'm mostly just working on the writing instead of the art, as I'm waiting to find others to help me with the illustrating.  I hope to find such people at the comic-making club on campus--they seem pretty into it.

6/22/11

Sketches from the 20th and 21st, adoptables (finished AND WIPs), some more general WIPs including a tattoo concept, a finished pinup of Emilie, and a racy sketch of Bailey being racy.  He does that.

6/20/ + 6/21

The 20th was pretty weak.  I had eaten nothing all day and then at around 10:40 (after my last post, actually) I ate a revoltingly unhealthy dinner while watching Avatar: The Last Airbender.  Really bad Dan and Liam abound.  I used a magazine cover for the pose ref but I was so not there.  I was already pretty sleep-deprived.
Also the scan cut off funny and the contrast was weird; my scanner is misbehaving.

21st was great, though. I slept earlier, ate properly hahaha, and what's more is the sketches came out well.  Liam and Emma.  Emma's nose isn't narrow enough (her whole face is a little wider than it should be, I think) but the shape of everything is right. Also a pose from another, more interesting magazine picture.

I'm not sure if it's a crow or a raven but I'm kinda going more for a raven, they lend themselves to something this scruffy and sketchy in line style....Tattoo design idea.  It would be under my collarbone on my left side.  I can't really explain why I like them so much.  I know they're symbols of knowledge in Norse myth, and I've always thought of them in terms of my personality because of their reputations for being such smart birds.  They're also handsome animals, and they're sometimes shown in conjunction with dreams and as a sort of afterlife connection.  I also always wear a raven pendant.  The idea of ravens make me feel kind of protected.

A badge commission I got from Kamilya a while back that I finally got around to coloring.  Obv. a WIP....:)

A picture of Dan.  The hands fit what he's going to be doing, bashing a window in.  A forward as to a sweeping motion.
I kinda drew silly things all over the paper since it's not actually part of the image.  He's taking out the not-dog, and also Him from the Powerpuff Girls...my current favorite cartoon character ;-;  Doodles of a character--Jack's ex and friend--are also on here. And a sheep cupcake.  I baked a bunch and more with a friend in April.  Also a boyfriend for the ex and friend of Jack's, a piebald deer. Elijah has no place in my storyline and I want a deer.  He won't be so pierced up though.

FINISHED CHARACTERS!  IF someone claimed one, they'd get to name them, decide their age, a few likes and dislikes, and their style.  That info would be typed and pasted on.  I also finish the little clothes people in the corners.  The original character sheet is then mailed to you.  They're notecard sized.  I chose to do 50 themes.   These guys are Fairy (the okapi-musk deer mix is based off of fairy-kei), Sweet (asian blue quail-corgi mix), and Punk (elegant fat-tailed mouse opossum, whose natural markings were difficult to draw XP).  My favorite guy is the punk guy, I think.  His tattoos are all based off of street art imagery, too, and the chest piece is "bullet with butterfly wings" I guess.  Yup.  Rastafarian or Nervous may have been a better prompt for him.   I might change that.

Warning: nudity and adult content under the cut.
There's ample warning before the adult content, and everything else is just nude.

6/14/11-6/19/11: Daily sketches.//Dan, Pokemon, Etc.

I'm challenging myself to do a sketch sheet a day for the rest of the summer. This means 3+ views/expressions of a character, and 1+ pose, referenced from either a photo or anatomically accurate illustration, drawn at least once, pref. twice, on computer paper.

AN ABSOLUTE FLOOD OF IMAGES UNDER THE CUT.

1/23/11

Drawn to I'll Take Us Home by Matt & Kim.  Specifically from the line, "Hey, New York is a wolflike shadow" in the refrain.  Liquid concentrate watercolors, blue ink pens, gel pen, bic pens, and markers.  Whew.  I started this over the summer....

This was drawn to Explosions in the Sky's album Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever, from the track Have you passed through this night?
This imagery is how that album makes me feel.  But in a good way--this is a dark image but it's not a sad or negative image.  Liam's face is too short here and his nose is too big.  I was still figuring out how to draw him when I made this.
Markers and pencil and pens, pretty much.
It makes me think of Desperate Hell by Christian Death but it was drawn a while ago.  Maybe over the summer.  I decided to ink it.  I miss Bailey.  I like him here--he looks raw and like he's trapped in himself.  Which he is, by his fears.

Done over the summer, in Washington, with watercolor, ink, and gel pen, to It's a Metaphor, Fool by Say Anything.  Their first album is my favorite album ever ever ever.  I wish they stayed that good with their continued studio work.  They added in too much electronic stuff and lost their way a little.  Lost their individuality and beauty.

...
I FINISHED IT!
HELL YEAH.  Sophie's ref is FINALLY done. You can see -her- art at http://likelaurels.deviantart.com oooor at http://www.arthousecoop.com/users/sleetmaa YOU HAVE TO SEE, HER ART BOOK.  IT IS AMAZING.
She's excited to draw her furry sonar on everything and I'm excited for her.

WIP of two badges (I redid the lines for Laurel's 'cause I didn't like her eyes) for Angel, and Hayden and myself as Lady GaGa and Beyonce.  Yeah.  I know. XP  I fucked up the phone line but redid it so it's all okay.  Angel's at http://angryprncess.deviantart.com and same name on FA, hayden's at http://sickheartsdofine.deviantart.com or sickhearts on FA.

Headsketch (concept) of Tess (pictured under the cut).  This is mainly scanned to show how I decided to make my friend Quiche a sugar glider.  I drew this and asked her what she thought and she FLIPPED so I went forward with it.  Cuuute.
Warning: Adult art under the cut.

The tiny sketchbook.//New badge ideas.

I have this tiny sketchbook I carry with me.  It's got 110 lb. paper and about one million pages in there, and it's 6 by 9 inches.
I haven't done much in it yet, though.  Got it over the summer while visiting my bro in Seattle, WA with the intent of keeping it in my purse.
So far?
Obscene doodles, some things friends have drawn, a few gifts I don't wanna post yet, a practice or two, aaand these.

EVELYN EVELYN FANART!!!
I killed Lyn's tail and don't have any idea how to draw a banjo so this will probably be computer-edited, then re-inked....
Plus the banner's crooked or something.
I should make it all whooooosh in a different way.
A bit of the physiology isn't what I wanted, but it's okay.

A fish I saw at these cool gardens around Capitol Hill in Seattle.  One of many, I may have even made it up from the other ones around me.  There were so many.
He's cute.  I almost wanna finish him up.
Carlos as a human.  yeah, the anatomy's fucked but I LOVE the thought vs. word bubbles.
She was gonna be taking off a bra or someshit but then her anatomy died and went to Hell.

Liam sitting there looking unhappy.  He looks like a big, cute, alcoholic dog here.  Except he's not a heavy drinker. XP
Still playing with how he looks.  I'm considering using refs of Max Bemis from Say Anything for future attempts...I think he has a similar facial structure.

My personal favorite.
It's rather graphic and there's nudity and gross buggy stuff.
Yes, I will finish it.  I love it. ;-;  anatomy mistakes and all.
I was working on the mass of flies and maggots and big stinging insects while watching the tail end of the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear yesterday.  It's coming along quite well!
Drawn while listening to Pretty Hate Machine.

And then these derp badges.
They're on bristol as to parchment because I felt it'd fit the look better.  They use letter stickers and have fun bright shape things drawn to frame the character's body/movement.
I wish Darkmoon's was smaller like Lance's.  I like Lance's better almost, but Dark's came out better than I expected.
optional dimple piercings ftw.  But they're ridiculously close to the lips themselves, not off in neverland cheekspace.
Trying to figure out how to price them.  They'd be cute and quick for a commission.

Aaaand that's a wrap!
I have a few more WIP's...a friend's reference sheet, both of Merriweathers forms (donkey and human), and a nude pin-up that I suppose would have to count as softcore porn, or something, of my character Rachel.  I usually draw -her- as a human but she has a fursona (non assumable) that's really cute and fun to draw.  She makes me think of Halloween without being a Halloween-themed character. I'm pretty proud of it so far--the anatomy around her pelvic bone and legs is really, -really- good!  ;-; I reffed it to be certain, and reffed her face too because opossums are hard to draw from front view.  She's an opossum chinese crested mutt.

Also...I was drawing opossums before it was the fashionable thing to do.  I started actually posting them around the time they started being popular, and all of a sudden, everyone and gramma has an opossum character about two or three months after I'd been drawing and posting Dan regularly, and it's not cool.   -_- It's boring.  And I think it subtracts from the fun-ness of running into a random opossum character.  In fact, it totally does!  BECAUSE PEOPLE LOVE PUTTING OPOSSUMS WITH EITHER ORANGE OR BLOND HAIR AND NATURAL COLOR MARKINGS.  And I'm sick of seeing them everywhere, looking like rip-offs of everyone -else's- characters who had them first, WITH red hair.
It's like...the hipster furs exploded and made clones of someone's character. ;-;  And then after that, even the -sparkledog- artists got in on it.  Sparkle 'possums don't look good.
I don't mean Dan, I mean a few other people who have had those kinds of designs forever and there's like, two of them.  Only.  Besides, who'd rip off my guys?  Exaaaactly.
Plus it makes me think Dan looks less special.  He wasn't a bandwagon attempt and he looks it.
I guess that must be how people with shepherd or lemur characters felt for a while there.

Or halloween bats.  Ev-ery-where.  I'm still working on Estella's design and I have to dance around so many toes....
/rant.

So yup.  Hopefully I'll have more soon.  I like posting here.

Recent art.

that's all I have for now as I haven't scanned much in the past week or so.  I have a new badge idea--most of mine are like this:
top left-Danno my man-no.  Then Odille for Morguelily on dA, and Liana for Plasticflowers on FA/Dead-groupie on dA.
Kinda...how I work.
They're always on parchment, but I came up with some using letter stickers and a really stylized look like on Dan's badge, on regular bristol.
They're cute. :P

I have a lot I wanna scan...been doing another ref for a friend and it's in the coloring stage.  the inkwork is really delicate.
Finished two pieces that I promptly hid in my portfolio so I gotta drag them out and scan 'em, too.
ALSO, PONY I MADE OVER THE SUMMER and never posted anywhere yet!
It's a Rasputina pony.  She's done after the song Hunter's Kiss from the Cabin Fever! album.  I used a sticker, gel pen, and acrylic paint for the symbol, dye and acrylic paint for the body, and sculpted the tail and fired it on.
She's gonna get a necklace-rose garland.  then she'll be done.
yup.
